Ugh. Leave it to the Vatican and the Holy See to take the church backwards in time.  First it was the “Welcome Home” campaign which saw banners placed in the front of every Catholic Church - A missed opportunity because it displayed a giant photo of the Vatican: a location the vast majority of Catholics have never seen much less called “Home.”
Now in the U.S., the church is preparing a new missal (the first since 1960) which, instead of continuing the progress of Vatican II and further demystifying the faith, will implement more traditional, ancient vocabulary and ideals. Backwards.
At a time, so short after the alienating pedophilia scandal, when the “one true church” should be working on INclusion and making faith more accessible, the Vatican is turning inwards and backwards.  It’s as though they are putting the church (and it’s traditions, dogmas and self-preservation) before the people.
That was never what Christ taught… In fact, Christ railed against the established church (the pharisees and sadducees) for putting the church and the law ahead of the relationship between God and man.  Christ never called for the preservation of the church organization (or treasuries or palaces or golden adornments), He called for a clear focus on loving God and loving one another.
I’m not a Catholic (although I was raised as such), but I’m miserable for how badly the Roman Catholic Church continues to miss opportunities to spiritually feed and provide for its flock.
